first things first

i've decided i need a new hobby. a hobby that will get me out of the house for a change.

despite some excellent suggestions by friends i've decided to go with my first choice of cryptozoology.

cryptozoology is the study of extinct animals or animals which are believed to exist but for which conclusive evidence is missing.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cryptozoology

its primarily a Fortean pseudo-science which comes under a lot of flack from proper scientists. its easy to see why really - grown men parading around in wellies trying to find the Loch Ness Monster is something even i find daft. luckily i'm not a scientist (not even a pseudo- one) and i'm going into this virtually blind. i used to read the Fortean Times, http://www.forteantimes.com/ , but i've never really been a true believer in Worlds Outside Of Our Own. hopefully my lack of experience or knowledge will give a different perspective on the whole cryptozoology thing.

first things first - i'd love to visit the Gobi Desert and search for the elusive Mongolian Deathworm (nice recommendation Mrsham!) or travel to Mexico and hunt down the blood-sucking Chupacabra. i'd definitely love to go to the Congo and track down Mkele-mbembe. however, i am a man of limited means so my initial research will be in the UK, specifically the north of england and alien big cats... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alien_big_cats

after some googling i discovered that big cats have recently been spotted again in north yorkshire, especially in the ryedale area. my first expedition will be a visit to ryedale and oswaldkirk to investigate these sightings and, hopefully, snap a picture or get some video footage of...

The Beast Of Ryedale

my journey begins on saturday. i'll post a full account of the trip when i get back.
